Longbranch to Purdy

This information is designed to provide basic information to help you in choosing appropriate paddle trips for your level of experience. The information may be old and outdated and I would encourage you to use several resources when a trip in unfamiliar areas. As always you are responsible for the safe operation and navigation of your own vessel. Happy Paddling!

  • This is a paddle route I like to save for moderate to strong windy days especially when blowing out of the south. That way I can take advantage of the fetch and large wind waves to surf on my way to Purdy. This route does require a shuttle and be done with no less than 3 paddlers for safety as there is a long committed crossing with no way to get out of the wind should the need arise. In these conditions the paddle will entirely be all down wind with 2-3' wind waves directly off your stern or your quarter, you must be proficient in following and quartering seas to attempt this paddle.

There is little to no current except through Pitt Passage on this paddle. Winds are you biggest risk. This route has a large fetch and wind waves become well developed in Carr Inlet and Henderson Bays.
