Learn to Paddle with the WKC

The Pacific Northwest is a fabulous place to start learning how to paddle. The Washington Kayak Club (WKC), is registered with the American Canoe Association as a Paddle America Club.  This is a group of clubs across the country that is dedicated to provide positive, fun experiences for people while enjoying and protecting America's recreational waterways.

The WKC is putting on a Basic Sea Kayak Course May 17-19th at The Coronet Bay Environmental Learning Center (ELC) (Located at the scenic Deception Pass State Park).

This course will provide beginners with a safe and fun introduction to the sport of sea kayaking. You will develop, refresh, and improve basic skills which are essential to paddling:

  • Effective Paddling Skills
  • Safety and Hazard Awareness
  • Capsize Recovery Techniques
  • Navigation, Tides and Currents
  • Gear, Equipment and Clothing
The fee for the 2 ½ day course is $175 and includes training and instruction, accommodations for two (2) nights and a Saturday night meal.

If you do not have your own boat with floatation, paddle, pfd (personal floatation device, i.e. life jacket) and/or dry suit, The WKC has a vendor who has given them a special rate for renting it during the course (not included in course fee).
